DStv Premiership side SuperSport United have emerged as favourites to conclude yet another shrewd signing with the addition of Nigerian striker Etiosa Ighodaro from rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.

Ighodaro spent an impressive last season on loan at Chippa United where he scored 10 goals with one assist in 24 league appearances.

The 24-year-old striker has recently been linked with a move abroad to both North Africa and Asia but now looks likely to favour remaining in South Africa.

The Nigerian striker’s contract with the Brazilians is believed to expire in June 2024.

“The negotiations between SuperSport and Sundowns are ongoing,” a source close to the player’s camp tells KickOff.

“The deal is close and at the final stages.”

If finalised, Ighodaro will become the third signing for Matsatsantsa after acquiring duo Siphesihle Ndlovu and Phathutshedzo Nange.

Meanwhile, SuperSport United are aiming to allow player Serigne Niang after an underwhelming season at the club.

Niang joined Matsatsantsa early in 2023 but has since failed to live up to expectations.
