Salim Jamal Magoola of Richards Bay has become the subject of transfer talk.

Salim Jamal Magoola of Richards Bay has become the subject of transfer talk.

Ugandan goalkeeper Salim Jamal Magoola’s solid
first season in the DStv Premiership has ignited transfer talk.

Magoola was a goalkeeper of the season nominee in only his first
season playing in the DStv Premiership after keeping 12 clean sheets in 28
appearances for Richards Bay.

Had the KwaZulu-Natal club not gone through their awful run of not
winning a single game in their last 14 league games, Magoola’s numbers would
have been better than what they were.

As of mid-January, Magoola had as many clean sheets as Mamelodi
Sundowns’ Ronwen Williams yet playing for a less resourced team.

The 2-0 win over Marumo Gallants in January was the eleventh clean
sheet that Magoola had kept this season which matched the eleven that Williams
had as of that day.

Richards Bay then crumbled after that win in
January.

However, the 28-year-old had already done enough
between the posts to place himself amongst the best keepers in the league.

His nomination for the keeper of the season award
at the end of the season was justified and as it stands his name has been
mentioned in transfer related talk.

While Richards Bay are not keen to let go of their
first choice but the option of better money away is a temptation.

Kaizer Chiefs’ name has been mentioned as the
strongest with the AmaKhosi goalkeeping department not looking stable.

Itumeleng Khune is past his best years and while
Brandon Petersen has been first choice, he hasn’t wrapped his fist around the
first choice jersey.

Bruce Bvuma appears to be on a path to settling for
being a backup keeper at the club who only plays when the first choice is not
available.

Magoola is no stranger to the demands of big clubs
having been with the big two in Sudan – Al Hilal and Al-Merrikh.
