The main disadvantage to the fan is its very loud noise even when on low settings. Since the fan diameter is so small (~ 40 mm), it must operate faster and thus more loudly than we would like. We’re able to record a noise of 82.6 dB(A) at the 1 percent fan setting up to 92 dB(A) at 100 percent. For reference, most laptop speakers top out at 80 to 85 dB(A). Anything above the 40 percent setting may be a bit too loud for a typical office environment but it’s otherwise not an issue when outdoors.

We would love to see some changes to the handheld fan to make it even better. The fan, for example, should be more easily removable to make cleaning simpler. The Li-Ion battery should be more easily removable as well in case of replacement. The entire unit is also a bit heavy and it just barely fits inside of a pants pocket. Perhaps a folding a design made out of lighter materials could make the unit easier to carry.
