Huawei dismisses claims it’s set to resume Qualcomm cooperation: report

Speculation is mounting that Qualcomm will resume the provision of 5G chips to Huawei, with the Chinese telecoms giant and phone maker due to release its flagship Mate 60 lineup in the second half of this year. However, Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei’s consumer division, denied reports that Qualcomm Snapdragon 5G chips were set to return to its supply chain, according to local media outlet Yicai. Huawei has raised its smartphone shipment target by 33% to 400 million units this year, suppliers said in June. There are signs that US technology sanctions targeting China may be loosening. TSMC and Samsung look likely to continue operating and upgrading their chip manufacturing plants in China, with the US government currently considering an extension of the two companies’ exemption from export controls.
