The ceremony, held on Saturday at the Banquet Hall of Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi International Conference Centre, Minna, was tagged “Reunion Luncheon and Awards of Marafa Primary School Set of 1985.”

The event, attended by friends, relations of the Old Students Association, and other well-wishers, provided a time for the Class of ’85 (students) and pupils from different backgrounds to reunite after over 38 years since they graduated from the school. The aim was to revive and restore the lost glory of the Baptist Missionary school in terms of infrastructural and human capital developments.

Marafa Primary School, situated within Minna metropolitan areas and very close to the Emir’s Palace, remains significant. The alumni association decided to meet after 38 years to honor Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, a former classmate, and four others, including a female associate professor at the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai, who have all excelled in their various fields of endeavor.

In his address at the occasion, the Chairman of the Marafa Primary School Minna Old Students Association, Class of ’85, Alhaji Umar Musa Zago, appreciated the head teacher and teachers of the school for molding them to reach this far.

“Our head teacher and teachers were endearing and saw us as their own children, which made learning easier for us, irrespective of beliefs, tongue, gender, or social status of our respective parents,” Zago explained.

Zago further noted that the discipline instilled during those years is still perfecting in them, the reason why “we were excelling in our different paths, making impacts in our generation across private and public sectors.”

“It pleases us to have a sitting governor, Umar Bago, as Marafa ’85 set, which is blessed with men and women. We are proud to be part of this great school, particularly the ’85 set, as we have made history today after over 38 years.”

“We are glad to give you this spectacular award for making an impact in the public glare as a politician over the years, particularly for making this reunion a reality. We assure you of our unflinching support with prayers as you steer the ship of the state to achieve the New Niger agenda,” he remarked.

Other recipients of awards of excellence include the State Chairman of the Nigeria Institute of Architects, Architect Aliyu Yerima, Engr. Gimba Yisa, Abdul Wasiu Amusa, and Hajiya Fatima Kolo, a former head girl of the school. The clergy of the Old Students Association, Pastor Samuel Audu, prayed for the good health and a successful tenure of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, an alumnus of the famous school in Minna in those days.
