Eliud Kipchoge Launches Ksh 140K Shoe collection

Ahead of his Berlin marathon on September 24, World Record Holder Eliud Kipchoge has partnered with Nike to launch, the ‘EK Umoja’ collection that is a combination of the best shoes the marathoner has worn over the years.

The series includes five running footwear silhouettes- the Nike Alphafly 2 which costs Ksh 40K, Nike Vaporfly 3 (Ksh 40K), Nike Zoom Fly 5 (Ksh 22K), Pegasus 40 (Ksh 20K) and Nike Victory track spike (Ksh 21K).

The thick soled super shoes come in the colors white and red, a nod to the Nike Zoom Miler that the athlete wore during his first World Championship in the 5,000 meters in Paris in 2003.

Throughout the collection the color red is prevalent paying homage to Kipchoge’s Kenyan background and culture while also referencing the Nike Kenya kit he wore when he won his first gold medal.

Kipchoge’s ‘EK Umojas’ are highly-stacked, lightweight with a full-length carbon-fiber plate embedded within the midsole that’s designed to be both comfortable, highly responsive and extremely fast.

Umoja means Unity in Kiswahili and the collection is built on the marathoner’s dream of bringing people together through running.

According to Kipchoge, the new shoe line “represents the work done together as a running family and community.”

The collection also includes an apparel line that offers the Nike Windrunner jacket, Nike Rise 365 tee, Nike Stride 7-inch short and a Nike Dri-FIT tee.

Both apparel and  footwear feature the ‘EK’ brand as well as mantras that Kipchoge is known for, “No Human is Limited” and “Let us imagine that we are in a garden. Let us focus on the flowers and not the weeds.”

Some pieces including the sock liners display the exact time the runner won the 5000m, 2003 race- 12:52.79.

However, impressive as the apparel line may be, it does not overshadow Kipchoge’s achievements that have branded him the very best in the field of athletics.

He is known for being the first and only person to run a marathon in under two hours through Nike’s Breaking 2 project.

Additionally, the world’s greatest marathoner as he has come to be known, has 10 World Major Marathon titles under his belt along with being a four time Olympian with medals in all his races since Athens 2004.
