Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” has become the fastest song to reach one billion streams in history.

The song has attracted worldwide attention for its lyrics, which some fans believe gives insight into her relationship with her former husband Liam Hemsworth. It also topped the charts in the United Kingdom, Australia, Belgium, Switzerland, and New Zealand upon release. On January 19, the song became the most-streamed song in a single week in Spotify history. Now just a few short months later, it’s crossing the one billion streams mark.

“It’s been incredible watching ‘Flowers’ break the record for most streams in a single week,” Jana Coffey, Spotify’s Artist & Label Partnerships Lead said at the time. “The song was already off to an amazing start after its first day, and it’s only grown from there. Rather than seeing massive streams on day one that decline throughout the week, each day since release has been bigger than the one before. Miley is back, and with her album Endless Summer Vacation coming out in a few months, this is just the beginning.”

Miley Cyrus shattered the previous record holder for most Spotify streams in a week, belonging to BTS with “Butter.” It set a then-record with 99.37 million Spotify streams in its first seven days. Digital sales of “Flowers” have also been unusually high, charting at the top of the iTunes sales charts for eight consecutive days in January when it came out.

“Flowers” debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, marking Cyrus’ first song to top that chart since “Wrecking Ball” a decade ago. It’ll have to beat “Party in the USA” with 1.1 billion Spotify streams to date and which peaked at the #2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2009. “Flowers” was written by Miley Cyrus, Michael Pollack, and Gregory Hein. The song reached the one billion record in just 112 days.
