Mawani Adds Shipping Service to connect Saudi and African Ports

Mawani, the Saudi Ports Authority, announced the introduction of a new shipping service by the German international shipping and container transportation company Hapag-Lloyd.

The new shipping service, named JDX, will connect the Jeddah Islamic Port to African ports, aiming to enhance trade movement between Saudi and world ports.

In a statement, Mawani said that JDX will connect Jeddah Islamic Port to Tanger Med in Morocco and Damietta in Egypt, through regular weekly trips, with a capacity up to 4,253 standard containers.

The new service comes in line with Mawani’s efforts to consolidate Saudi Arabia’s standing as a global logistic hub, and a juncture between three continents.

It also supports supply-chains movement, in accordance with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, in addition to improving the Kingdom’s ranking in international indices.

The Jeddah Islamic Port’s distinctive infrastructure, and its various shipping services, qualified it for several international awards.

It won the Advanced Port Infrastructure Award at the Landmarks in Logistics Awards 2023, and Port of the Year at the Logistics and Transport Awards in the UAE in September 2023.

The Port also won Port of The Year and Digital Transformation awards at the 7th Green Shipping Summit held in Rotterdam, The Netherlands in February 2023.
